SFSU Creative Writing grad students, come join your classmates for various ways to stay sane, have company, and keep writing. For now, everything is virtual; when it’s safe to have in-person events, we absolutely will.
And, if you haven’t already, join the Slack! It’s like the Grad Reading Room or Café Rosso on campus, but virtual. For a link to join, email Neha Bagchi, or any classmate who’s already in.
Recurring: The Writing Groove
When: Multiple times each week; see schedule below.
What: The Writing Groove is an informal way to support each other as we work on assignments and creative projects. We spend most of our time writing (mics off; cameras preferably on), and afterwards we discuss Important Writerly Things, like “omg whyyyyy won’t my characters behave?” and “…what if my Muse is ghosting me?”
The structure for each session is like so:
15 min: check in; share what you’ll be working on
90 min: writing (video on, mic off)
15 – 30 min: check back in; chat
Get your Writing Groove on at the following times each week:
– Sundays 6 – 8 pm, hosted by Jasmine Mosher
– Mondays 7 – 9 pm, hosted by May-Li Khoe
– Tuesdays 9 – 11 am, hosted by Gretchen Cion
– Thursdays 9 – 11 am, hosted by Tracy Shapiro
Questions? Please contact one of the hosts listed above.
Recurring: Submissions Party
When: Every fourth Saturday of the month, 4 – 6 pm.
What: With friends by your side, submitting work for publication is easier and more fun. Each two-hour session includes: 30 min of resource-sharing, plus info on how and where to send your work; 60 min to send it out; and 30 minutes to chat, debrief, commiserate, and celebrate.
Feel free to drop in and out as you need.
- 30 minutes – Intros, answering questions, sharing resources, building collective knowledge
- 60 minutes – Submitting! Every time you submit, come off of mute and caterwaul with pride!
- 30 minutes – Debrief, hang out, unwind, discuss, whatever
Questions? Contact Gretchen Cion, Quinn Fairchild, or Julia Shackelford.
